Its a bit of a read, whoops :D, but hopefully you can get an idea of who I am and what I'm doing here.
Our brains are so unbelievably fascinating and complex. It's amazing that we can change our brain, our behaviour, our habits and our future, meaning we are never stuck. It can be hard and challenging at times and there's no, 'one size fits all' approach, but you CAN change and mould your brain, ultimately shaping your life.
My drive is love, empathy, understanding and knowing that we are all equal. No one is better than anyone else.
It was during my third year of my psychology degree that I completed a developmental psychology paper. That sparked my love for educating.
There is plenty more to a teachers role than what you might consider the main core areas. I personally enjoy challenging students views towards learning, especially when they believe they are no good in certain areas. I enjoy watching them change their opinions and beliefs over the year I have them. I remind them that no two brains are the same, ever. Our brains are even different from the day before. We are always learning and growing, that never stops. I also love teaching my students how to be amazing little humans to themselves and each other through kind acts, showing gratitude, being inclusive, showing empathy towards others, be accepting and understanding. I admire the positive influence teachers can have in shaping and moulding a childs brain.
Today my love for psychology and educating is extending beyond children to adults and is more focused on brain and body health.
In 2019 I went on the reality tv show, Married at First Sight NZ. I applied when I was living in Sweden. I was a free spirit, enjoying visiting various places and living month by month. A friend sent me the link and encouraged me to apply, I thought, 'ha sure, lets do it'. Going through the selection process was hilarious, I was asking myself, 'is this for real or is someone pranking me?'. I legit thought my friends were pranking me. I was planning to come home for one of my best mates wedding and I ended up getting accepted onto the show. It was a lot of fun, and the most bizarre, challenging and unique experience.
I struggled with a fair bit of anxiety and stress, which lasted for a few weeks. Humans are social animals, and there were multiple layers to this experience. Basically, I was hurting, I was in pain.
It was during and after the show was airing, I struggled with a fair bit of anxiety and stress, which lasted for a few weeks. Humans are social animals, and there were multiple layers to this experience. Basically, I was hurting, I was in pain. I became my very own experiment. During this time I was extremely intrigued to what I was experiencing and how my thoughts were all over the place and at times very negative. It felt like my whole future just disappeared and was irrelevant. It became my mission to get myself to a place of peace, whist acknowledging and embracing my emotions and experiences because they were valid and important. I didn't only just feel stress and anxiety, I felt alot of happy emotions too and made some beautiful memories. However, the good times were often overpowered and rightly so, my brain was trying to protect me.
It’s a combination of what I learnt from this experience, my love for understanding the brain, as well as educating, helping others and being very aware of the inequalities in our world, that I'm here doing what I’m doing, sharing what I’m sharing.
With everything that's happening in our world, and because I’m so infatuated with brain and body health and well-being, I’m navigating how to share valuable, inspiring and informative information that can help you at an individual level, as well as hopefully encourage you to play a part in shortening the gap in inequalties. I want to do my part in encouraging ALL people to enjoy this life.
My drive is love, empathy, understanding, and knowing that we are all equal, no one is better than anyone else. Together I believe we can shift social norms and cultures for the better, and improve health for all.
I hope I can be part of something bigger than myself. We often think that's out of our reach. Imagine if everyone who envisioned being part of change, stopped because it seemed impossible or too hard. Nothing would change.
I will be honest, open and share my experiences. I will also share knowledge around brain health and physical health, and the connection between the two (could be the same thing). I hope this page will bring positive change to you and your life and encourages you to think deeply about how your mind works, and then use this knowledge to design your own life.
I hope I can be part of something bigger than myself. We often think that's out of our reach. Imagine if everyone who envisioned being part of change, stopped because it seemed impossible or too hard. Nothing would change. For instance; women’s rights and gay marriage. Without those who dream big, nothing changes. So I’m dreaming big and I want you to join me.
I will continue to study and learn and share. I’m currently studying at Massey University in Auckland. I’m hoping to get my Masters in Science with an endorsement in Health Psychology in the next few years.
I'm not following any classic routine with sharing, I might post something once a week or once a month, but if I think it will ad value to you, I'll get it out there asap.
If you have any thoughts or questions, please do get in touch.
I hope what I share resonates with you.
